Independent Living Program
Young adults may choose to remain in foster care and apply to Northern Star’s Independent Living Program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- 18- 20 year old male or female
- In DFCS Extended Care
- Completed high school or obtain a GED
- Have a complete Scatter Site Assessment (if complete)
- Able to live in an independent setting
- Able to obtain employment within 3o days of entering program
- Willing to follow program expectations & guidelines
*Northern Star ILP accepts pregnant or parenting young adults.
*Youth may start the application process for either above program 30 days prior to turning 18.
*Northern Star does not discriminate based on an applicant’s race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity & sexual orientation), nor national origin.
Email completed ILP Application AND signed Program Expectations to northernstarga28@gmail.com with subject “ILP application”.
A decision will be made if applicant is a good match for our program after review of application documents and an applicant interview.
Community Hygiene Skills Program
For Lumpkin and surround county community members.
While it is easy to hand out free hygiene items (which we will definitely be doing), Northern Star wants to dedicate the time and resources as well, to help educate and enable healthy hygiene options for those who may not have regular access to running water, hygiene supplies, appropriate clothing, or food. Items offered (some may be seasonal or based on availability):
- Hygiene & Minor First Aid items
- Laundry washing
- Seasonal appropriate clothing
- Blankets
While washing clothing or enjoying a snack, participants will be able to learn more about:
- Health & Hygiene skills
- Community Resources
- Life Skills
- Planning for a healthy future
This program will be on a referral and application basis only.
